What a weekend it was…
Baird E. Haney Brooklyn Junior Gold was conducted predominantly at the famed Heights Casino, home of some of the most outstanding juniors of the past ten years. We had a “small but select few” that competed, and competed well at that, with one winner, two semi-finalists and one quarter finalist. Not a bad haul at all! A quick reminder to all that Gold Tournaments are tough, and even though I do shout out the highlights, even making it in the door to compete in these events means you’re a pretty high standard player… always good to have perspective for players and parents…
Reghan, only a few days past her 13th birthday, (belated Happy Birthday Miss!) was dominant in the GU15, defeating a quality field in relatively short order. Never easy to go in as the big favorite and deliver, well done! In the same draw, Kayla fought her way through several tough matches and showed the benefit of her intensive summer training.
JJ rocked the BU15 draw, making his second consecutive Gold semi-final in two weeks! Reflecting on September for JJ, everyone’s favorite 12 year old started the month causing upsets and making the final of our Rehearsal Tournament (losing out to Coach Jamie). He then came 5th in the Boston JCT (only losing to the eventual winner) and backed up with a semi-final in the Baltimore Gold while playing up an age group. That’s a lot to type, let alone to accomplish on court! All that remains is to say “Well done JJ”!
The good news didn’t stop there, with Mimi 3rd place in the GU11, with several tough five game matches and Jonathan winning his way through to the BU13 quarter finals. Both should be proud of their efforts and are clearly on the right track.
This coming weekend we see Rehearsal Tournament #2, a great chance to get those matches we all need - and you can sign up here, with entries open until Thursday! Currently top seed is Coach Jamie with Alex and Parth making their first appearances this season. In the lower divisions we have a bundle of new squashies just setting out in their competitive journey, so there’s a place for everyone. On court we have a lob week, which gives me a chance to have my favorite “volley lob” chats and basically it’s ALL GO!
September has been awesome, October promises even more… See you all on the courts!
