September 3rd 2022 will go down in squash history as (trumpets blaring) Squash Tigers Inaugural Rehearsal Tournament! And it was spectacular! Well done to all the players on both their standard of play and overall sportsmanship, showing the work of a hard training summer and giving us some real optimism about the season to come!
Our Premier Division saw Coach Jamie emerge dominant in the elite eight player field. Although in the nicest possible way, Jamie made sure some of our youngsters saw all four corners of the court with great regularity and well done to Lily (who emerged from qualifying along with Erica), Claire and JJ in the final on fighting it out to the best of their ability and getting some good repetitions in before the first JCT of the 2022/23 season! In the other parts of the draw JJ had a notable win over Kunal in five games after Eric pushed him hard earlier in the day and Erica, after winning through qualifying, had several barn burners on her way through the draw.
Edward fought through a long day to win Division 1 in impressive style over Daniel after squeaking past Tyler who then went on to his own epic barn burner versus Angela. Adam, back from his recent training sojourn in Egypt, showed good form in defeating Kevin in a big five and likewise Kaylee. Kaylee was notably one half of our “Super U11’s”, along with Mimi and they look in excellent form pre Boston JCT - watch out world!
Division 2 was epic, no other way to describe it… and at the end of almost 30 matches Evan emerged as the Champ after a spectacular final with Katherine. The entirety of D2 played ridiculously good squash and enjoyed good fun, with high standards of sportsmanship and some great learning on and off the court. Shout outs to Tony on his third place and Jay who battled out his draw every step of the way. Likewise Raghav and Surya brought us the delight of brother vs brother competition, reminding Coach Colin of his youth!
Rehearsal Event #1 was a day to remember and now we look forward to #2 to be conducted October 1st! Many questions remain to be answered? Will anyone beat Jamie, or at least who can get through to play him in the final? With brothers Edward and Evan winning D1 and D2 in our first event, can they back up - and can our U11 crew look even cooler and impress Coach Colin even more? All of this and more will be answered in less than a month, don’t miss out - entries HERE!
